This story actually starts back in 2013. Chapin and Legend were both starting 7th grade at Isaac Sowers Middle School in Huntington Beach, CA. When Ms. Short sat Chapin and Legend right next to each other in her science class she likely didn’t know the huge impact it would have on their lives. Chapin was always the student who could zoom through classwork and assignments with ease, while Legend was social and struggled to stay focused on work once she got talking. After weeks of talking in class and Legend getting in trouble with Ms. Short for flirting with Chapin instead of doing the classwork, Chapin finally asked Legend out on a date. They hung out at the beach once, before Legend got too shy and ghosted Chapin out of typically middle school awkwardness.
After losing touch when attending different high schools, Chapin and Legend reconnected during their senior year of highschool. On their first date (March 3rd, 2019) Chapin took Legend on a mini adventure through Fairview Park, they spent time watching the waves on the sand of Huntington Beach, before star gazing at the park behind Legend’s childhood home in Huntington Beach. This date lasted over 6 hours, but felt like barely an hour to the two of them. At one point both of their parents even called to confirm that they were still safe and alive. Reconnecting at this time in their lives allowed them to share their senior prom and highschool graduations together before attending Orange Coast College (OCC) together.
In 2020 Chapin and his family made the move to Colorado. That same week Legend and her family made the move to Arizona. This left Legend and Chapin in a long distance relationship. Fortunately they were able to take flights to see each other every month until living together during the summer of 2021. During which Chapin and Legend rented a little condo in Newport Beach, CA. Chapin was able to spend this last summer Lifeguarding, while Legend worked as a preschool teacher. They both will always remember and cherish their first little place together.
That fall Legend moved to Colorado after transferring to the University of Northern Colorado. While now in the same state, Chapin and Legend were still over an hour and a half drive away from each other. However, the nearly two hour drives each weekend definitely beat the monthly two hour flights when they were living in different states.
After being together for over four and a half years, Chapin asked Legend to marry him at the top of Pike Peak on September 30th, 2024. Legend and Chapin now live in Highlands Ranch, Co where Legend pursues her career as 5th grade teacher, while Chapin works to complete his pilot training with the long-term intent to become an commercial pilot. To this day Chapin still teases Legend about ghosting him back in 7th grade, but in the end everything has worked out perfectly.
