Colorado State Capitol

  • The Colorado State Capitol was constructed in the 1890s and opened in November 1894. The Capitol is the eastern edge of Denver’s Civic Center, and is part of the national historic landmark. It serves as the beginning of the Capitol Hill District, sitting slightly higher than the rest of downtown Denver. Tours take about an hour and include a trip to the dome observation area. The dome is a 99-step climb above the 3rd floor and is accessible by stairs only. Only open Monday – Friday for tours.

  • Beginning in the late 1880s, the community and the Georgetown Loop became a tourist center for those who ventured West to encounter the wild ruggedness and romance. Tourism in the West developed around railroad excursions. Today, three of these “iron horses” are preserved, maintained, and operated in Georgetown and Silver Plume, Colorado.
